Tracy

Condition: Unilateral above-knee amputee

Experience: A college senior, who played on the University of Richmond basketball team, Tracy dreamed of her future after graduation. A month before her final semester, Tracy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left leg. Tracy’s leg was amputated above the knee in March 2016 to save her life. “I spent the year of 2016 receiving intense chemotherapy while I was learning to walk again after losing my leg… It was one of the greatest battles I'll ever face, but I'm so lucky to have become the person I am.” Despite the challenges, Tracy’s physical therapy team at The Gait Center did not give up, and wouldn’t let Tracy give up, either. “Physical therapy at The Gait Center raised my morale while raising my talents, coordination, and ability to literally move forward.” A year later, Tracy re-enrolled at the University of Richmond to finish her senior year, and graduated in May 2017. She moved to Denver, Colorado and enjoys hiking and exploring the area’s national parks.

Personal interests: Writing, reading, meditating, caring for animals, exercising, and spending a lot of time outdoors

“I'm forever grateful for the time, professional experience, energy, and patience given to me throughout my battle. I not only regained my ability to walk again, but I gained lifelong friendships.”
