Welcome to the Instructor Library!

We want to bring quality, gait-focused education to both experienced clinicians and students. While Mission Gait’s continuing education classes and upcoming certification program are focused on practicing rehabilitation professionals, our materials can be an excellent adjunct to current physical therapy education across the country. This library is designed with an “a la carte” approach, whereby an educator can easily design a special interest course or lecture that meets the demands and restrictions of their curriculum. It can also be utilized to accompany specialty knowledge from lecturers.

Whether you use one of our course templates or only one of our slides, we hope that these resources give your students a better understanding of gait.

This collection contains all materials needed to implement an 8-week special interest class in gait training and evaluation. It includes lecture materials for the first four lectures and instructions on recruiting guest lecturers in specialty areas of practice. All projects include a rubric to simplify grading and to reduce administrative burden. This class has been tested and improved with feedback from Doctor of Physical Therapy students in their third year.

4-Week Gait Course

This collection contains all materials needed to implement a 4-week special interest class in gait training and evaluation. It includes many of the core materials of the 8 week course, but is less in-depth to allow for opportunity to focus on pathology. This format is a great option for lecturers who specialize in one practice area and would like to structure their course in that area. It is also a great option for individuals who are unable to recruit additional guest lecturers to support their course.

The foundation of these materials is a strong basis in normal gait. This is highly recommended to highlight the key tasks of gait (1. weight acceptance / 2. single limb support / 3. swing limb advancement), review Rancho Los Amigos gait phases, and promote a clinical-based view of the gait cycle.

The Observational Gait Analysis (OGA) lecture materials promote a systematic approach to gait analysis. It offers specific tools for the students to use for practice both in and out of the clinic. The lecture covers the JAKC OGA form (new in 2018), observational and video analysis tips, case studies, and

This lecture can be utilized with a flipped classroom approach, providing the students with the online lecture prior to class. This allows greater time to focus on case study practice.

Gait Pathology and Orthopedic Gait Impairments

The pathology and orthopedic lecture references the primary pathological mechanisms proposed by Dr. Jacquelin Perry in Gait Analysis: Normal and Pathological Function. Each are discussed with reference to the global impact on gait. Rather than exploring an exhaustive list of impairments, these mechanisms can help students foster critical thinking to support a diverse patient population. Orthopedic impairments are explored with case studies.
